Rams Continue Strong Start, Bury San Jose State 90-57

The Colorado State Rams ran their Mountain West Conference record to 6-1, their best start in the Modern Era, as they jumped on the beleaguered Spartans early and often, running out to an easy victory.

Slow starts had plagued the Rams in their first 4 road games but not tonight as they bolted to a 10-3 lead by the first media timeout and led 26-9 midway through the first half.

Junior Kendle Moore explained that they always want to start fast and what was important today “was to play with enthusiasm.”

That they did as they defended fiercely, grabbed rebounds, and ran the home team right out of the health club with their devastating speed. Their fast break margin for the game was 24-3.

Moore would lead the Rams with 18 points but it was his defensive energy early that set the tone as he converted two steals into breakaway layups. David Roddy recorded his 5th double-double of the season, with 17 and 14 rebounds. Isaiah Stevens had a loud start, scoring all 14 of his points in the first 10 minutes and super-sub John Tonje added 13 off the bench.

The Spartans were led by a remarkable performance by Richard Washington who scored 35 of his teams 57 points. Washington was 12-26 from the field. The rest of his team was 10-38 from the field.

The two teams meet again on Saturday at 4:00PM MST in the second of the Pandemic Pair.

  1. You referred to the place where ths game took place as a health club. To me it looked like a junior high gym.

  2. There have been two CFRL games played to date. CU rolled all over UNC and WYO rolled over DU. The only other game scheduled outside of MWC games is CSU hosting UNC in February. I would rank them as follows:

    1. Colorado
    2. Colorado State
    3. Wyoming
    4. Air Force
    5. Northern Colorado
    6. Denver
