I disagree, both were a moral imperative


Certainly they were different operations . The failure for Carter was not in the operations themselves but for logistics, redundancy, they never even got to their objective, just a burn scar in the desert. It was definitely a low point for the US military, particularly in the shadow of the Israeli success at Antebe. Carter failed to get re-elected. In Pakistan and Bin Ladin a crashed helicopter didn’t result in loss of American lives or mission outcome. Anyway, I think most people put blame and credit on the President, rightly or wrongly
