It’s Lee Kunz Day for the Rocky Mountain Showdown

#97 multi-sport athlete.

Kunz played three years with the Chicago Bears, participating in 48 NFL games and starting (for a while) ahead of Mike Singletary, but that's not the main reason he's on this list. What he did on the last day of his sports career at Wheat Ridge High School is.

In the 1975 Colorado high school state track meet, Kunz won the state title in the discus (190 feet) ... and also in the high jump (6-foot-9). I've paid attention to sports for a long time, but I've never heard of anyone else accomplishing that feat. Kunz also threw the discus for Nebraska in college, winning a Big Eight title and approaching 200 feet for his top throws (the college discus is heavier than its high school counterpart). He ranked among the nation's best in the event, an amazing accomplishment since he weighed only 220 pounds.

On deck: His most famous play was getting pummeled by a Bronco.
