It’s Scott Elarton Day for the Rocky Mountain Showdown

#83 multi-sport athlete.

Elarton made an early, huge splash on the Colorado high school sports scene, leading the Lamar Savages to a state championship in baseball as a mere freshman in 1991 at Runyon Field in Pueblo.

Lamar won two more state titles under Coach Jess Downey while the 6-foot-7 Elarton was there, and came close in basketball. Elarton starred on back-to-back Class 4A (on a 6A scale at the time) state runner-up teams, losing 63-56 to Alamosa in 1992 and 90-80 to Niwot in double overtime in 1993.

Elarton was selected in the first round (25th overall) of the 1994 MLB draft and went on to a 10-year career in the bigs, going 17-7 with the Astros in 2000. He won 56 games as a major-leaguer.

Assist to Cam's Chorizo on this pick.

On deck: Cheer, cheer for old Notre Dame.
