It's Vic Janowicz Day for the Rocky Mountain Showdown

#80 multi-sport athlete.

From the Heisman Trophy to both the NFL and Major League Baseball.

No, not Bo Jackson, who won't be appearing on the Countdown for quite some time. The first to do the above feat was Vic Janowicz of Ohio State, who won the Heisman in 1950.

Despite winning the Heisman, and very much unlike Jackson, Janowicz did not possess the size (5-9, 187) or speed to be a great pro football prospect, so he went after a baseball career first. Janowicz reached the majors in 1953, and played that season and in 1954 for the Pittsburgh Pirates. He appeared in 162 games, struggling to a career batting average of .214 with four home runs in 383 at-bats. He played catcher and third baseman for the Pirates.

He also returned to football about the same time and played for the Washington Redskins in 1954 and 1955 as a running back, gaining 410 yards and scoring four touchdowns.

On deck: Another NFL/MLB guy ... and the same year for both.
