That's the whole point here. A second cousin or great great grandparent are considered closer matches that make their work easier.

Also the data has to be voluntarily put into one of these databases that cooperate with police. Maybe 4-5% of people who do ancestry tests submit to databases. The police don't have access to ancestry or 23 and me, etc.

At least not yet.
