It’s Russell Wilson Day for the Rocky Mountain Showdown

#52 multi-sport athlete.

Before he tormented a Denver team in the biggest game, Russell Wilson had hoped to play for a different Denver team.

"They" told him he was too short (5-foot-11) to be an effective NFL quarterback. So Wilson gave pro baseball a shot.

The Rockies drafted Wilson out of North Carolina State in the fourth round in 2010, and Wilson played for two years in the Rox system as a second baseman. He hit .230 with for the Single-A Tri-City Dust Devils in 2010 and .228 with three home runs for the Single-A Asheville Tourists in 2011 in a higher-level league, and then hung up his baseball spikes. He played only 93 pro baseball games and had just 315 at-bats, which is not a big enough sample to tell if he could have made it to The Show.

But he had plenty to show in football, of course, finishing up his college career with a sensational senior season at Wisconsin (33 touchdowns, a Rose Bowl appearance) after "they" told him he was no longer needed in Raleigh. Oops.

Wilson has thrown for 196 touchdowns in seven NFL seasons, including a league-leading 34 in 2017 and 35 last season. He helped the Seahawks dismantle the Broncos 43-8 in Super Bowl XLVIII.

And "they" are nowhere to be found anymore.

On deck: Dude ...
