This. We're a bunch of mostly middle-class, mostly middle-aged guys who

apparently have enough comfort in life to waste time on a message board. It is folly to think for one second that our perspective and worldview would make sense or matter one bit to a young kid like Kapri or Higgins (very young when they made these decisions) who grew up poor and have very different pressures on them which influence their decision-making.

It is easy for me / us to say cliché things like "money doesn't fix poverty, education does" because I grew up in middle class white suburbia and never had to face poverty. Nor did I ever have a dream like Kapri's that I was willing to take a huge life chance on to make happen. Most of us on this board will always advocate for the "safe", "smart" choice but I can't criticize a kid for chasing a dream even if it wasn't the safest or smartest from my perspective. Maybe if I generated & chased more dreams I'd be doing something other than sitting in a gray cubicle typing on a message board about things that don't really matter much in the big scheme of life. Wow. That was deep.
