The constitution would say women are equal to men in black and white

Which it currently does not. It could have other implications, depending on how it is interpreted, including paternity leave for men. Here is the text:

Section 1. Equality of rights under the law shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of sex.
Section 2. The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
Section 3. This amendment shall take effect two years after the date of ratification.

Other implications means court battles over whether or not it can be ratified 38 years after the congress imposed deadline in 1982. There is precedent for extending the deadlines and the 27th amendment was proposed with the bill of rights but wasn't ratified until 1992. I am sure courts will be involved though. If VA approves the amendment early next year some think it will not be in the House or Senate's best interest to stand in the way, especially so close to the election.
