That team was built very differently

He persuaded Manning and then many top-tier FA's followed. Not a knock on him, just saying that Elway being the GM of a SB winner and Elway being a poor evaluator of college talent can both be true.

Yes, he's had some hits & misses. The big issue is that his high draft picks - which should be the core of the team - were largely misses for the better part of 6 drafts from 2012 to 2017. Picks in the first three rounds in that stretch: Wolfe, Brock-O, Hillman, Sly Williams, M Ball, K Webster, Roby, Lattimer, Schofield, S Ray, Sambrailo, Heuerman, Pax Lynch, Gotsis, J Simmons, G Bolles, D Walker, C Henderson, B Langley. That is pretty bad. Basically 3 impact players (Wolfe, Roby, Simmons) in rds 1-3 over six drafts and only one of those was in Rd1. We let Roby walk and TBD if we'll re-sign Simmons.

The 2017 draft is basically a complete waste at this point - Bolles (1st), Walker (2nd), Henderson & Langley (3rd - both were complete non-contributors), Butt, Mckenzie, D Hendreson, C Kelly. Bolles has played basically 1/3 of a good season in three years while leading the league in holding calls for his first two. Meanwhile they guy Elway could have drafted instead (Ramczyk) has been killing it for NO basically since day 1.

In fairness, the top of his last two drafts have looked much better: Chubb, Sutton, Freeman, Yiadom, Fant, Risner, Lock, D Jones. Broncos have 9 picks currently in the next draft including 5 in the first three rounds so plenty of opportunity to continue the positive trend.

Definitely agree on the point about Rams players. I dunno...I think he reached a little on Sambrailo and so now perhaps he dismisses CSU players...although it would appear that if he'd stuck with Ty a little longer he'd at least have a more valuable backup OT than anyone else on the roster currently. Anyway yeah...hard to believe Bisi and P Williams went so late and didn't seem to get a sniff from the Broncos, especially knowing 2019 was likely Sanders' last in Denver.
