It’s Reed Doughty Day for the Rocky Mountain Showdown

#68 Colorado Classic

Colorado connections: Born in Greeley, grew up in Johnstown and graduated from Roosevelt High School.

Accomplishments: Reed Doughty fell through the big-time college cracks while a Roosevelt Roughrider, which worked out nicely for the University of Northern Colorado. Doughty started all four seasons for the Bears, recording 14 career interceptions and a whopping 466 tackles. He had 21 tackles in one game, against Nebraska-Omaha. Off the field, Doughty was merely a 4.0 student throughout college. But after a stellar career for UNC, it was almost like he was back at Roosevelt. He lasted until the sixth round of the 2006 NFL draft, when the Washington Redskins selected him. Good choice. Doughty played eight years in the nation's capital, starting 54 total games. He had 336 solo tackles and 171 assists, three interceptions and 12 tackles for loss.

On deck: Colorado's best prep basketball player during the 1970s, according to some sportswriter who saw a bunch of his games.
