Except that "moving to the spring" is just delaying the inevitable

Moving the season to the spring is simply putting off the decision to cancel the entire thing. I can't see there being NCAA football in the fall and things won't be any better or different in the spring. The optics of beginning a college football season next month would be awful and no school is going to risk it. Don't get me wrong, this isn't what I'm hoping for nor does it align with my personal views on the situation, but the media storm that would descend upon a school when there is an "outbreak" connected to student athletes (even when there is no proof they got it from the sport, completely ignoring that the vast majority of us are likely to get this at some point if you ever leave the house) will scare everyone off. Schools (of all types) and individuals are divided over the safety of in-person learning, which is an essential societal function. There is no way universities are going to trot out amateurs to play a game.
