Winter has the same effect

Driving people inside, recirculating air, etc.

Look at the Northeast US... cold as crap in Dec-March. Everyone bunches. Biggest spikes. Meanwhile in the south, you can sit on the patio, play golf, etc.

Now weather is more tolerable in the Northeast, it's the Southern folks packed inside and all the hot states are spiking.

Flu usually spikes in winter months due to more confinement/indoor congestion. The intitial thinking was this virus would mellow in warmer months - like the flu. But it seems to be able to survive much longer in warmer climates if it can linger in climate controlled venues. As the user name implies, I also used to live in AZ and this time of year, everyone is hanging in AC-cooled joints with misters flowing.
