Regarding the EC.

I don't see the EC as the problem per se. The bigger problem is that we are rapidly losing our faith in our country and its vaues, norms and processes. Throughout our history we have always had volatile factions and at times these have led to terrible events such as the Civil War. But other than that disaster we have seemed to always overcome these factions to handle issues that threatened to break apart permanently. This year we have seen us come as close to that as we have been since the 1860's. The only problem with the EC is that it requires the ability of our citizens and our government to buy into our common values, norms and processes to assure that they operate as intended becasue none of these can hold unless this continues. Trump has latched onto that third (or more) of us that don't buy into this any longer and if this trend is not stopped we will not survive as a representative democracy..
