It isn't hard to see the similarities. However, I am encouraged by a few
things. First, the number of people - including influential politicians & donors - who are jumping off the Trump bandwagon. I am hopeful (not convinced yet, but hopeful) that this is indicative of a longer-term shift to where Trump cult followers are clearly the oddballs and shown to be on the (very) wrong side of history. The GOP is seemingly facing a reckoning - they will have to either coalesce around a less extreme agenda or split. Second, the election was a referendum to a large degree on Trumpism. The large number of votes for Biden is indicative of just how galvanized the liberal base became - and how many moderates voted for a Dem - when faced with someone like Trump. Yes, Trump garnered a lot of votes...again I am hopeful that a lot of these were voting strictly on the party lines and/or according to the "lesser of two evils" thinking (neither practice I think is good but may explain a lot of the votes) by conservatives rather than true support for Trumpism.
