Crazy story - I've traveled a lot the last 10 years of my career and have

had two pretty crazy experiences. Once flying from SFO to IAD, about an hour west of DC we hit a microburst and the plane suddenly lost 1000 feet of altitude in like 1 second. Never felt anything like it. Had I not had my seatbelt on I would have hit the ceiling for sure. I drank like 3 whiskeys in the last hour trying to get straight after that.

Second time, I was connecting to SFO from Houston and got put on an old American DC-10. About 2 minutes after take off I could tell that we weren't gaining altitude as quickly as we should be and then the plane takes a huge fast left turn and immediately lands. A fire sensor had gone off immediately after take off and the pilot had issued a mayday. We stopped on the runway and the fire crew met us out there. Turned out to be nothing and we taxied back to the airport. They tried to put me on another DC-10. I told the woman I wasn't getting on another one of those death traps, and she found me another flight.
