CSU needs to bring it vs AFA/UNM, not feel bad about running up score

The next three games are cupcakes on the surface, but there's been data showing the very real impact of COVID layoff for teams that have been off for 2-3 weeks. I mean, Baylor was down 17 in the first half to a 2-win Iowa State team a few days ago after a three-week break (and only won by five points).

So, CSU will have to be very engaged and focused in these games, and the team getting into their previous rhythm ahead of Nevada and the conference tourney is obviously a huge thing too.

But assuming they can still handle these teams, ideally it can be an ass-whooping and very efficiently. There's been some debate about the importance of margin of victory to the committee, and it probably matters less when talking about bottom 50-100 teams. But you'd rather win by a lot than a little, of course, and boosting the efficiency numbers is a way to improve your resume when Quad 4 wins won't do much.

Jerry Palm made a good point about margin of victory in his bracketology article today, pointing out how high UNC moved up in the NET with their blowout win vs Louisville, while Michigan State has only moved up 13 spots (to 68) after beating Illinois and Ohio State by a combined 13 points:

"The NET has not been as kind to the Spartans. Michigan State only moved up six spots, from 81st to 75th, after the win over the Illini. The Spartans only moved up seven more spots to 68th with the win over OSU.

And just in case you still think margin of victory is not much of a factor in the NET, when North Carolina smoked Louisville by 45 points on Saturday, the Tar Heels jumped 20 places in the NET rankings, from 53rd to 33rd. Michigan State won its two games by a combined 13 points."

Weeks ago, I hoped that the Air Force and New Mexico games could be a great opportunity to play Isaiah Rivera for 20+ minutes, try extra hard to get James Moors and Dischon Thomas going, etc. But I think now we just need to take these games seriously all game, boost our metrics, and get our main group ready to go for the big games that follow.
