I agree. This is a case where the student is greater than the mentor.

Aaron and Moses, David and Solomon, Patton and Eisenhower, JJ Williams, Tiny Boyd Grant, Phogg Allen, Dean Smith, Roy Williams.

Of that last trinity in my opinion (excuse me Swoll) the last two are some of greatest ever I saw coach. I was 3 when the foghorn retired at Kansas.

Don’t get me wrong I loved Tim Miles and he often had me in stitches. Niko is not the story telller and is only now establishing his Coaching tree but his teams especially the bench seem MORE into the game even when they may never see the floor that night. Kids who pay attention are “students” of the game when not on the floor impress me. Perhaps it is the Kids Niko has recruited and perhaps I will forget Logan Ryan who played so hard for Niko in relief Nico Carvacho, JD Paige, Anthony Bonner, Kris Martin mentored Kendle Moore and Adam Thistlewood who along with Nico led last years Amazing Freshman Class. But Tim’s first team he inherited Stew Creason Sr., Marcus Walker Jr, Willie Gardner Jr. Adam Nigon Soph, and Andre McFarland Fr. but everyone else was Gone except Transfer Andy Ogide. His first real recruited class year 2 brought in Jesse Carr the MOST memorable and his injury was one of the most tragic. That mid west Nebraska pipeline blew up in Greg Smith, Wes Eikmeier and Dorian Green out of Lawerence were gems. Colorado’s own Pierce Hornung was not just a home state favorite but his lunch box attitude was the epitome of a Ram especially for us Boyd Grant and Lubick era fans.

Very happy for the California Spartans getting Timmy, but I pray the Colorado State Rams retain the “Niko” for a minimum of 5 more years. The only way I would be happier if Medved breaks JJ’s record of 352 wins but I hope he doesn’t have to suffer through 283 losses nor take 15 years to lead us to an Elite 8 appearance.
