I would say the MWC's handling of COVID-19

for sure. By the time the MWC decided to play football, great players had already opted out and signed with an agent, or transferred. That cost the MWC for sure. In addition the mess of cancelled games, not having space to move them and play them later, on again off again, did not help the preparation of players which shows up on tape.
All that being said, this was going to be a down year for draft picks in the conference. I said it last year, this conference as a whole did not have experienced players at many key positions. A lot of young QBs, young RBs, guys transferring in, etc. Going into this year the conference will have more experience then last year so that should help a lot.
SteelerRam is right though, the AAC is separating itself from the MWC. It is a little at a time. But it is starting to add up and if the MWC doesn't start doing some big-time things or if the teams in the conference who want to be considered with the best don't put their foot down or leave, the uphill battle will be insurmountable and there won't be any leverage left. I mean if you just look at what the AAC is paying coaches. The highest paid coaches in the MWC would be in the middle to bottom third of the AAC.
