I like it, but I don't think it needs to be quite that big

JMO, 16 teams would be better, making an 8-team West division and an 8-team East division. You could have all teams play 9 conference games, 7 from their division and 2 from the other division rotating each season. The division winners still play each other at the end of the season, with the winner making the playoff.

Right now, there are 23 teams across both conferences, so 7 schools would be left behind.

From the MWC and AAC, I don't see these schools providing much value to a P6 conference in the way of performance on the field/court, academics, facilities, location, market, fan support, etc.

MWC:
SJSU - one good year on the field doesn't make up for the many years of bringing the entire conference down a notch. SJSU shouldn't even be DI imo.
Hawaii - travel nightmare and football only makes it easy to cut them
UNM - their AD is a complete mess and the future of their athletics is unstable
UNR - hardest one for me to cut, but aside from their basketball prowess in recent years, they don't provide a lot of value to the conference in the other areas.

AAC:
Tulsa
E. Carolina
Tulane - better fit for the Ivy League than a P6 conference

So that breaks it down into your West and East divisions:

West:

SDSU
Boise
Utah St
UNLV
WYO
CSU
AFA
Fresno

East:

Cincinnati
Memphis
UCF
SMU
Houston
Navy
USF
Temple
