Fire Emmert. He is a wholly owned subsidiary of P5 football.

He should have been more honest and said, "big-time college athletics have outgrown amateurism and no longer need the NCAA, or me. I'm trying to find a role in which I can stay employed."

The NCAA (or it's needed replacement) is still a very viable entity. It just no longer has any application to the semi-pro football leagues. His projected model (give me a break) does nothing to benefit or support the vast majority of college athletes. It will actually punish them.

Collegiate sports would be far better off giving schools a choice between accepting a potential (not guaranteed) invitation to a new ESPN professional minor league, or joining a less corrupt amateur athletic organization. A HS kid shouldn't be precluded from a college scholarship just because he's only good enough to play at Montana State. Football at Montana State will disappear under the Emmert theory. Those scholarships will disappear along with it. CSU is in the same boat.

I don't think we need to abandon amateur athletics, we just need to reorganize them to save them.
