Heard Schlereth talking about it on the radio today. Basically said what I

think most reasonable people probably thought about it from the beginning: playing any position in the NFL is really, really hard and takes years of dedication to perfecting your craft so for a guy to come in having never really played the position and think he could actually have a shot because he's a good athlete was, at best, a pipe dream. Sure there are guys like Gates and Thomas who played college BB and converted into NFL tight ends - but they were also 10+ years younger and had time to develop.
