Lack of attention to detail has plagued the program during this stretch...

...of seven losing seasons. I remember McElwain have his team in the parking lot of the Marriott Hotel the night before the NM Bowl in Albuquerque. He was meticulous about playing clean, being prepared for every scenario, and executing.

Bobo's teams were sloppy. Made horrible mistakes at seemingly inopportune times regularly. We're seeing the same thing with Addazio's team. Saturday's mistakes were mindboggling at times. Even Addazio himself said "I can't look you in the eye and give you a good reason why we had a false start on a field goal attempt."

Well, is there any other explanation than lack of attention to detail and emphasis on playing clean, with discipline, focus, etc? Our best player shoves the ball into an opponent's chest on the sidelines and gets an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty? This only happens if it's tolerated in your program.

I'm as frustrated as anybody. And I'm not feeling confident about the direction of the program. But six games in is not the time to call for firing a coach. I fear, however, fans will be speaking their mind with their wallets and not attending games the rest of the season. Those fans are going to be hard to get back. Finally had an engaged fan base for the first time in many years. Students were craving football and seeing a good product. It kills me that we have missed that opportunity. It bums me out that many of the friends that I drag along to games will no longer join me.

I will continue to cheer for the Rams and be at the games...primarily to see friends and enjoy the game day festivities. But forgive me if my patience has worn thin on disappointing football. The impatience from us all is largely due to the previous five seasons under Bobo, which are not Addazio's fault. But six games in to his tenure, I'm not seeing marked improvement in any of the areas we always complained about. That's concerning.

I've been a fan of Addazio's ability to communicate as a leader. I enjoy listening to his press conferences. But Saturday night, his words rang very hollow and even strange at times. We desperately need a good performance at Toledo...and find a way to win.
