Conference realignment is all driven by footballbut looking at hoops

Taking at look at the final NCAA NET rankings, 4/5/21, after the post season:

Memphis 35
SMU 59
WSU 70
Tulsa 127
Tulane 158
Temple 160
ECU 175
USF 200
Average = 123

SDSU 26
USU 47
BSU 53
CSU 63
Nevada 101
Wyoming 163
UNLV 189
FSU 199
UNM 303
AFA 324
SJSU 333
Average = 164

If you take AFA and CSU and move them to the AAC………
AAC average = 137
MWC average = 157

This is a very simplistic way to look at things – the AAC teams got a huge bump by Houston’s season in 2021 (NET = 5). And in the future the MWC teams wouldn’t have AFA on its schedule to drag down its rankings. But overall, much like football, this doesn’t look to be an step up in competition. The positive is 1 sub 300 team on the schedule versus 3. But to me it looks like a lateral move, at best.
