They really have been pretty good at the outset but the best I ever saw

was 1998-05. There in the stands 20 minutes before kickoff to lay claim to the bench area they never sat on.(perhaps stood on) and there until after singing the fight song and the alma mater.

My era 1973 and 74 pretty good excitement with new Coach Sark and lining the wall with bottles. Once they sold beer and banned the bottles after clocking a Campus Cop you had perhaps a third of the Eastside. While in grad school 1977-79 we carried in a cooler loaded with homemade hoagies and premade pina colada’s and mai tais in plastic milk jugs sat on the south 30 yard line with about 25 of us our wives and some of their kids. You could shoot a shotgun above or to the south of us without hitting a soul. No problem with clear bag or alcohol policy they were thrilled to have anyone in the stands after the State Board of Agriculture started crippling Sark’s teams.

That was pretty much the way it was through the 1980’s until Bruce and then Sonny’s teams. So I love having the Students today being in their aisles standing and cheering be it til half or through the third quarter like last Saturday.
