Politics. John Fuhr President of the Senate and Republican nominee for

Governor in 1974 lost to Dick Lamm. Lamm nominated Fuhr an Arapaho county Veterinarian and grad of CSU to serve on the Board of Agriculture soon became Chairman. Dr Fuhr had a son who was a DB at Cherry Creek wanting a scholarship. Probably a good kid from a good Fred Tesone program. However Sark did not feel deserving of a scholarship. The Board cut training table and support staff of the program in 1978. Young Fuhr tried walking on at Arizona State and Kush said “No.” Went to Utep and Coach Micheal who went 5-43 in 4 years and 2 games. After 2 sub 500 years 1980 1 win over. The Board cut Sark’s Coaching Staff prior to 1981. Sark started 0-6 = fired Chester Caddis finished the year 0-6.

Many fans including myself, felt Sark was set up to fail. From 1973-77 he was 30-24-2. 3 wining seasons in 5 years. 1978-1981 15-23-2, one winning season (6-4-1 in 1980) in 3 1/2 seasons.
Sark and Charley Armey brought us the Bell Brothers and Bubba Baker who graduated in 1978. Charley was justifiably fired but the entire team and program was under the gun in 1978. Their 1977 team went 9-2-1 beating Arizona and Arizona State in the same year for first and only time and their last year in the WAC before moving to the 10pack.

What could have been? This is my opinion and many others of us old birds including players from that era.
