2015 RamNation Bowl Pick’em Contest Sponsored by Rams Book Store

REGULAR SEASON CONTEST RECAP

BOWL LINES | GAME-BY-GAME RESULTS/STANDINGS

pigskincontestlogoContest is over! By virtue of Clemson’s cover over Alabama, “Get Rammed” wins the championship; smaruscog takes second

1/12/16–An exciting RamNation Bowl Pick’em Contest Sponsored by Rams Book Store came to a close Monday night as the two co-leaders — Get Rammed and smaruscog — watched intently to see who would be crowned national champs and RamNation champs. We used the national championship as a tiebreaker, first allowing the two tied contestants to pick the point-spread winner of the Alabama (-7.5) vs. Clemson game and then total points in the game. However, both picked opposite winners, so that made the tiebreaker simple. If Alabama covered the -7.5, then smaruscog would win the title. If Clemson covered the +7.5, Get Rammed would win the title. In a back-and-forth game, Alabama ended up winning, but Clemson got the backdoor cover with a late touchdown to make the final score 45-40. Thus, Get Rammed wins the championship (a $100 store credit to Rams Book Store), while smaruscog takes runner-up and the $50 credit.

We already knew our third-place winner from last week, as Jjepson finished in sole possession of third place. Winners, we willl be in touch with you shortly to arrange collecting your prizes.

Get Rammed and smaruscog finish tied for first and champ will be decided by new tiebreaker; jjeppson takes third

1/3/16– Favorites had won eight straight games following the Orange Bowl and it wasn’t until a wild finish in the Cactus Bowl — the final bowl game of the season (prior to the National Championship) — that saw an underdog cover for the first time in three days. West Virginia (+1.5) beat Arizona State 43-42. Games earlier in the day featured Georgia (-6.5) beating Penn State 24-17 in the Tax Slayer Bowl, Arkansas (-11.5) beating Kansas State 45-23 in the Liberty Bowl,  and the most miraculous game — TCU storming back furiously to beat Oregon in triple overtime in a “pickem” Alamo Bowl game.

That Alamo Bowl wasn’t just exciting from a fan standpoint, but also had major implications in this contest. Trevone Boykin, TCU’s talented senior starting quarterback, was sent home two days before the game due to an altercation with police and thus the true line in that game went as high as Oregon -9. Contestants like Get Rammed, CServant, and Rams98 who had picked Oregon to cover must have loved their chances with the news of Boykin being out and must have especially felt good after the Ducks took a 31-0 lead into the locker room at halftime. But TCU recorded the biggest bowl comeback in history to win 47-41.

That game helped smaruscog keep pace with Get Rammed and both finished the contest season tied at 27-13 (a 67.5% winning percentage). Due to our mislabeling of the Orange and Sugar Bowls for the tiebreakers on the entry form, it was decided that the tie will be broken by the co-leaders picking the point-spread winner of the National Championship Game between Alabama (-7.5) and Clemson.next Monday (and as a secondary tiebreaker, total points scored in the game). Get Rammed and smaruscog need to email us at [email protected] to submit both tiebreaker guesses).

We do know who third place will be in the final standings as Jjeppson used a 3-1 performance on Saturday to move into sole possession of third place at 26-14, and thus will earn the $25 store credit to Rams Book Store.

The following 12 contestants finished just out of the prizes, tied for fourth at 25-15:

  • CServant
  • Rams98
  • Hond0
  • ryguy
  • Ramborguesa
  • RAM Texas
  • northbuff
  • Shiner
  • PaPaPaPa
  • txRam
  • MPHram
  • SB05

So, after 40 games, we had 24 favorites cover and 15 underdogs cover (and TCU winning as a pickem), with 12 of those underdogs winning outright. The RamNation contest field finished at a solid 51.5% winning percentage. It’s not often the field has finished above .500 in the bowl contest over the years.

Contest details/rules

  • Contestants will pick a point-spread winner in every bowl game games.
  • Contestant’s should make their picks “against the spread”. For instance, if CSU is favored by 3.5 vs. Nevada, and CSU wins by more than 4.5 points, they win “against the spread.” If CSU does not win by more than 3.5 points, then Nevada wins “against the spread,” even though they might lose the game.
  • In the event of a tie between contestants at the end of the bowl season, the first tiebreaker is the total points scored in the “tiebreaker” game. The contestant that picks closest to the total points scored wins the tiebreaker. If total points does not break the tie, then total yards will be used. Again, closest guess to the total yards gained from scrimmage by both teams during that game will win the tiebreaker.
  • Entries are due by 9:30 a.m. Saturday December 19 prior to the first kickoff that day.
  • Please submit only one entry form per contestant.
  • The system is set up so that if you want to change your picks (before the start of the first game), you simply have to to resumbit your entry, and it will overwrite the exisiting entry.

Guidelines and other notes:

Q.Ram, our contest administrator, will make his picks known on the message board prior to deadline, so that everyone will know he is not rigging the game to win all of the prizes.

When in Fort Collins, please pay a visit to our gracious sponsor, Rams Book Store, for furnishing the prizes. Their sponsorship is what helps make RamNation go.

All registered posters are welcome to join the contest, but remember all you Ram foes out there…the prizes are limited to what Rams Bookstore has in stock, which is primarily CSU-related gear! Thanks and best of luck to everyone (except Buffaloes, Cowboys, and Falcons).
