The Die is Cast as the MWC Announces Rescheduled Games

Or as we learned in Latin class back in the day, “Alea Jacta Est.”, spoken by Julius Caesar as he led his forces back into Italy across the Rubicon River, violating a Roman edict and setting up an inevitable war

The MWC announced a whole slew of makeup games to be played during the one week buffer that existed prior to the MWC Tournament.  It was the conference’s best effort to provide the best balance to get to the best possible solution for seeding for the tournament.

All the games that were postponed can’t be made up in such a short amount of time so they did the next best thing which is to play at least one game of a two game series with a team.

In CSU’s case that means the addition of a home game with New Mexico and a road game with Nevada. Both games will follow the pair of games already scheduled at Moby against Air Force.

By the time they’re done next week, CSU will have played 18 of their originally scheduled 20 conference games. Some teams will play 20, some will play 19, and some will play 18. Not perfect in terms of equanimity but probably the best they can do given the circumstances.

And so now CSU knows what their final run-in to the MWC Tourney includes. Two tricky home games against bottom feeder and rival Air Force. A home game against bottom-feeding New Mexico who are improving.  And then a difficult road game against Nevada, who have swept both front-running Boise State and in-state rival UNLV in Reno.

A regular season conference championship and the number 1 seed in the tourney still in play if they win out and San Diego State splits their series with Boise. A 2 seed if San Diego State wins out against Boise and UNLV since they were awarded two forfeit wins vs. UNM and the Rams win out. And a 2,3, or 4 seed still in play even if the Rams lose one game and finish 14-4.

The good news is that the Rams have prepared for New Mexico already since they were ready to play the Lobos last week before a last-minute postponement. And they have had time to get ready for Air Force in the past week.  The only issue will be prep for Nevada since the team did very little, knowing that Nevada was shut down for two weeks.

They go into this final 11 days of the regular season knowing what’s ahead of them. And will once again have to play an NBA-like compressed schedule of 4 games in 7 days. But they have experience in compressed schedules, having already played 10 games over a 23 day period in late December and January.

Fasten your seat belts folks. Or as RamNationer JoeyB always says, “Button down the hatches”.

Its going to be a wild ride over the next week and a half.

  1. They will decide based upon win percentage. CSU could finish 15-3. SDSU would be 15-4 with a loss and Boise 16-4 with a loss.

  2. So, we can still win the regular conference championship of SDSU and BSU split the series and we win out the season? We wouldn’t lose the season by 0.5 games?
