2019 RamNation Pigskin Pick’em Contest Sponsored by Rams Book Store

2019 BOWL CONTEST HOMEPAGE

FINAL RESULTS

Welcome to the 2019 RamNation Pigskin Pick’em Contest, sponsored by the Rams Book Store!

Rock n Ram wins the tiebreaker week to take the 2019 championship; ParkerRamFan finishes runner-up and  Rams to Dominate takes third.

12/10/19–We played 14 weeks, picked 210 games, and that wasn’t enough to crown a champion, thanks to ParkerRamMan and Rock n Ram finishing in a dead tie at 110 wins in the Contest Total (factoring in throwing out each contestant’s worst two weeks) and 120 in the Season Total (gross total), for a 57.4% winning percentage. So, we held a tiebreaker for the two contestants during conference championship game week, and crazily, both contestants had the exact same entries — with exception of the Oregon-Utah game. Rock n Ram picked Oregon to cover the spread, while ParkerRamFan took the Utes, and thanks to the Ducks’ blowout win, Rock n Ram earned the championship.

He has won the 1st place prizes from Rams Book Store, along with the 32-oz growler of beer from Mighty River Brewing Company, while ParkerRamFan earned a smaller prize from Rams Bookstore and growlers as well from Mighty River. Coming in third place was Rams to Dominate , who picked 11 games correctly in the final week to climb from ninth place to third with 108 Contest Wins. While that’s an impressive surge, it could have been even better. He had nailed 11 of 13 games going into Saturday’s nightcaps and unfortunately for him, Oklahoma State and Fresno State let him down in the last two games to finish 11 of 15. If he won those games, he would have won the week AND the season contest. Nonetheless, it was a great performance, and for his third-place finish, he earns the $25 store credit to Rams Book Store and a full growler from Mighty River.

Week 14 proved to be a dramatic finish for our top two contestants also. ParkerRamMan came from five spots down heading into the week thanks to recording 11 wins, while Rock n Ram entered the week in second place and recorded 9 wins. It resulted in the first end-of-season tie, unbreakable by win percentage in the 19-year history of the contest.

The heartbreakers in the final week were hopsblues and stapleton ram, who came into the week in first place and third place, respectively, but each fell out of the prizes as other contestants ascended. Hopsblues had just 6 wins this week to follow up on last week’s 5, so after being in our top 5 for much of the second half of the season, he comes away empty handed — falling to fifth place at 107 Contest Wins (112 Season Wins). Stapleton ram had 8 wins this week to also finish at 107 Contest Wins (118 Season Wins) to take fourth place.

The top 10 looked like this:

t1 ParkerRamMan
t1 Rock n Ram
3 Rams To Dominate
4 stapleton ram
5 hopsblues
6 CSUCUDAD2
7 NewGuy
8 carnero
9 The Fast Forester
10 joeybtherealad

Joeybtherealad vaulted up the board to reach the top 10 thanks to nailing 13 of 15 wins this week, which earned him the top sscore of the week. He thus earns the $25 store credit to Rams Book Store and a free flight of beer courtesy of Mighty River Brewing Company. (Again, please contact us at [email protected] to arrange collecting your prizes.) Congrats Joey!

The field finished the season with a bang, recording a 55% winning percentage, and thus pushing our season-long winning percentage to 52.05% — our highest in contest history. It beat the previous best of 51.7% in 2017. It was just the eighth time in 19 seasons that we finished above .500. Nice work, everybody!

We also want to thank Rams Book Store for sponsoring this contest for the last 19 years. For those of you who don’t know, they are closing their doors permanently later this month. So, if you haven’t redeemed your store credit, please do so very soon. And when you do, please thank Griff for his support of RamNation.com and wish him well!

We also thank Mighty River Brewing Company for their support of this site and the contest this season. We highly encourage you all to go check them out!

We’re excited to announce that Scheels is sponsoring our bowl contest, which will be up and live in the next couple of days. It’s done in the same format as the regular season, except you pick all 39 bowl games against the point spread, and then sit back and enjoy the action. We’ll provide regular updates as the bowl season goes along.

But as Christmas is less than a couple weeks away, please consider stopping by Rams Book Store to pick up some gift items, and likewise, when you’re thirsty for some amazing beers this holiday season, check out Mighty River Brewing Company. We are lucky to have such great sponsors!

Contest details/rules

Each weekly winner gets a prize from Rams Book Store. Season winners win gift certificates to Rams Book Store. Prizes: Each weekly winner will receive a store credit to Rams Book Store. The top three finishers will receive gift Grand Prize gift certificates to Rams Book Store.

Rules:

  • Each week contestants will pick a winner in 15 games.
  • Contestant’s should make their picks “against the spread”. For instance, if Stanford is favored by 14.5 vs. San Diego State, and Stanford wins by more than 14.5 points, they win “against the spread.” If Stanford does not win by more than 14.5 points, then San Diego State wins “against the spread,” even though they might lose the game.
  • The weekly winner will be the contestant with the most correct picks.
  • In the event of a tie between contestants at the end of a week, the first tiebreaker is the total points scored in the “tiebreaker” game (usually a game involving CSU). The contestant that picks closest to the total points scored wins the tiebreaker. If total points does not break the tie, then total yards will be used. Again, closest guess to the total yards gained from scrimmage by both teams during that game will win the tiebreaker. If a tie is still unbroken, both contestants will receive a prize
  • Please have picks in 15 minutes prior to kickoff of the first game on the contest schedule. Please note that Thanksgiving many games start on Thursday.
  • Please submit only one entry form per contestant.
  • The system is set up so that if you want to change your picks before the weekly deadline, you simply have to to resumbit your entry, and it will overwrite the existing entry.

Season Contest: In addition to each weekly contest, there is a contest for the entire 14-week season in which totals will be kept over the course of the season. The season winners will be the contestant’s with the most correct picks throughout the season, while dropping your worst two weekly win totals. If you miss a week or have a bad week, you can drop that week against your season total. This allows for contestants who may miss the first week, or who may miss a week during the season for whatever reason to remain in contention for the title. If there is a tie between contestants at the season, the highest win percentage for all weeks will be the first tiebreaker. (A contestant must have participated in 11 or more weeks to be eligible.) If the tie is not broken by win percentage, then the contestant with the most Season Wins breaks the tie. If the tie is still unbroken, there will be a final playoff during the Conference Championship weekend, between contestants who are tied.

Guidelines and other notes: The contest administrator (Q.Ram) will determine the weekly games on the following basis:

  1. All games involving MWC teams.
  2. All games involving two teams rated in the Top 25 AP Poll or receiving votes.
  3. At least one game involving each of the eight biggest conferences.
  4. Any other games of note (rivalry games or games involving Top 10 teams).

Please note that CSU games will not be included because the contest administrator (Q.Ram) is highly superstitious and doesn’t believe in betting on games in which he is emotionally involved. (Most of us are CSU fans, and we would all pick CSU to win every week anyway, so that game would be a wash.) CSU games will, however, be used for the Tiebreaker game, unless they are on a Thursday night. Results will typically be posted the following Monday. Please track your picks and make sure you are credited with the right amount of wins. Q.Ram has been known on a very, very rare occurrence to make a mistake, and we will correct errors up until the following week has been played. Remember, if you are in the market for text books and CSU gear, Rams Book Store should be your first choice. Their sponsorship is what helps make RamNation go. All registered posters are welcome to join the contest, but remember all you Ram foes out there…the prizes are limited to what Rams Book Store has in stock, which is primarily CSU-related gear! Thanks and best of luck to everyone (except Buffaloes, Cowboys, and Falcons). –Q.Ram, Good SHEP, and CSURamFan
